The advertisement about the runaway wench named Violet, who escaped from her master with her two boys, touched me deeply. The pain and agony that this family went through is represented in my art piece. Violet burst through the headline with her story, almost as if she was bursting through that stereotypical society where she would never be freed. Now that the hard part of escaping the world as she knew it was over, she could be happy in a new world with her family. She was a strong woman, who finally had the chance to embrace her strength.
