Behind all the modern upgrades, Tarrytown’s DoubleTree by Hilton has a rich, 51-year history.
Originally the Tarrytown Hilton, the hotel was actually built for the World’s Fair in Flushing, Queens because of its proximity to the brand new Tappan Zee Bridge. There apparently weren’t enough hotels between Tarrytown and Queens to help house the estimated 51 million visitors to the Fair over the course of its two six-month runs in 1964 and 1965, explained General Manager Rich Friedman, noting that this Hilton was the “first full-service hotel in Westchester.”
Now bigger and better than ever (and with a new bridge in the works), the DoubleTree by Hilton Tarrytown still boasts that unbeatable location in the heart of the Hudson Valley, perfectly situated for visitors enjoying Historic Hudson Valley’s Westchester sites.
“It’s a unique property and not your typical high-rise, corporate hotel,” Friedman says. In warm months, you’ll find guests lounging in the grassy courtyard or dining al fresco at the Bistro Z restaurant, a 2013 and 2014 Diners’ Choice awardee from Open Table.
The DoubleTree by Hilton Tarrytown is developing a number of special guest packages that will feature visits to Historic Hudson Valley’s sites and events including LIGHTSCAPES and the Blaze. The hotel will extend its hospitality by generously hosting a reception for Historic Hudson Valley’s top donors at Van Cortlandt Manor.
Historic Hudson Valley is proud to count the DoubleTree by Hilton Tarrytown as a Hospitality Partner and collaborator in providing such extraordinary experiences to the region’s visitors.
