Volunteering

What kinds of jobs do you have for volunteers?

Historic Hudson Valley is always looking for volunteers to be tour guides. This is a great opportunity if you love history and have some time on your hands. If you like working with the public and staying busy, we also have openings in our Museum Shops, as well as at the Information Desk at the Philipsburg Manor/Kykuit Visitor Center. On weekdays, there is an opportunities to work in our beautiful gardens and historic landscapes.

I work weekdays. Can I volunteer on the weekends?

Yes. All of our special programs, most geared toward families, take place on weekends. We are currently recruiting for volunteers to staff our special programs at all our sites. These are minimal training type jobs (greet visitors; scan tickets; answer phones, etc.) but critical to the smooth presentation and success of the program.

Does Historic Hudson Valley require a minimum number of hours?

Generally speaking, we ask volunteers to commit to an entire season of at least once per month. But if you can donate a big chunk of time in the fall, our busiest season, we can use your help. In October, we will present Legend Weekend at Sunnyside and Philipsburg Manor, and at Van Cortlandt Manor, the month-long Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze. We are already staffing for these events and actively looking for more volunteers.

I am 12 years old and love history. Can I be a volunteer?

Unfortunately, you must be at least 14 years old to volunteer.

I'm interested. How do I get started?

It's easy. Simply call Ross W. Higgins at 914-631-8200 ext 633 to learn more or schedule an interview.
