Sunnyside Site Rentals

Sunnyside is the charming riverside home of author Washington Irving and one of the most famous places in American history. The romantic landscape and cozy cottage, located on the banks of the Hudson River, make it a perfect wedding site.

Weddings

Meticulously restored, Sunnyside offers shady and expansive lawns, colorful gardens, rolling hills with river views, and a tented courtyard. The picturesque porch and adjacent shady lawn, overlooking the Hudson River, also make a perfect setting for a ceremony and cocktails. There is also a tented, brick paved courtyard suitable for less formal events and seated dinners. Guests are also welcome to hire an external tent company.

Several areas near the site's manor house offer unspoiled views of the Croton River and are excellent choices for tented events. Cocktails or small dinner parties may be enjoyed on the porch of the historic 18th century manor house. Guests will also enjoy a stroll by the nearby gardens.

Bar/Bat Mitzvah Receptions & Birthdays - A wonderful outdoor setting for young children who are interested in exploring the grounds of a beautiful historic site located by the Croton River.

Graduation Parties, Rehearsal Dinners/Brunch - Enjoy a serene outdoor setting, surrounded by a beautiful forested area on one side and the bucolic Croton River on the other. A tent could be set by the 18th century stone manor house or down by the river's edge.

Corporate Meetings - Use the conference building, which includes a fireplace. Meetings can include a tour of the site during break-time or an interactive demonstration with a costumed guide on 18th or 19th century crafts, such as textiles, woodworking, or candle making.

Capacity

Visitors determine the capacity for their event depending on the size of the tent they choose to rent. Van Cortlandt Manor also has an attractive room with a wood-burning fireplace that seats 40 or accommodates 65 standing.

Philipsburg Manor is a picturesque working farm of the 18th century, with a water-powered gristmill, charming mill pond, pasture, handsomely furnished manor house, 18th-century Dutch barn, and a garden.

Weddings

The visitor center, with its glass-enclosed terrace overlooking the millpond and historic buildings, contains two attractive spaces suitable for entertaining. The Greenhouse, with its views of the site and glass roof is perfect for scenic evening and stand-up events. The adjoining Gallery, decorated with artifacts from the collection of Historic Hudson Valley, is a larger setting suitable for formal dining.

Other Events

Bar/Bat Mitzvah Receptions & Birthdays - Enjoy a working farm with oxen, a cow, sheep, chickens and more to amuse young children. There's also a working gristmill and an 18th century Dutch Barn.

Corporate Meetings - Use the auditorium, which also serves as a modest gallery for the site. Meetings can include a tour of the site during break-time or an interactive demonstration with a costumed guide on 18th or 19th century crafts, such as textiles, woodworking, or candle making.

Capacity

The Greenhouse Café can accommodate 65 persons seated and 100 persons standing. The Gallery capacity is 80 persons seated and 120 persons standing.

Unique Party ideas

  • Host a holiday party in December that includes candlelight tours of Van Cortlandt Manor or Washington Irving's Sunnyside, both of which will be elegantly decorated in historic style.
  • During Kykuit's season (May-November) give your guests a tour of Kykuit, the Rockefeller estate, followed by a party at the Philipsburg Manor Visitor Center.

House Tours

The perfect addition to any private party, house tours give your guests a unique and fascinating experience that will make your event even more memorable. House tours must be arranged in advance.

Special event photography

Fee: $10 per person for bridal party and all other participants, plus a $250 per hour site use fee. This includes admission for the photographer and assistant, as well as an HHV staff person to assist the bride.

Catering

Historic Hudson Valley can recommend caterers, but you may use a caterer of your choice that Historic Hudson Valley must approve in advance.
