In time for Halloween, new unabridged recording of ‘The Legend of Sleepy Hollow' showcases Jonathan Kruk's storytelling talentSLEEPY HOLLOW, NY (Oct. 13, 2008) - Master storyteller Jonathan Kruk tells the unabridged story of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow in a new, award-winning CD produced in collaboration with Historic Hudson Valley, the non-profit organization that hosts the perennially popular Legend Weekend every October at Philipsburg Manor in Sleepy Hollow, N.Y. The CD, recorded at Berger Platters Productions in Bronxville, N.Y., includes special effects, ambient music, and spooky sounds created especially for the recording by Matt Noble and Al Hemberger of Berger Platters. It recently received a National Association of Parenting Publication Honors Award. "The story is timeless and fascinating to hear all year, but it has special resonance in the fall, as Halloween approaches," said Jonathan Kruk. "This Legend recording is both entertaining and authoritative. Other recordings have been abridged, edited, even rewritten entirely. This is the complete story as Washington Irving wrote it and published it in 1820," said Rob Schweitzer, spokesperson for Historic Hudson Valley, which also owns and operates Sunnyside, the romantic homestead of Legend of Sleepy Hollow author Washington Irving. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow CD can be purchased at the museum shops of Historic Hudson Valley at Washington Irving's Sunnyside (Tarrytown), Philipsburg Manor (Sleepy Hollow), and Van Cortlandt Manor (Croton-on-Hudson); at selected bookstores in the Hudson Valley; and directly from Jonathan Kruk. About Jonathan Kruk and Legend Weekend Jonathan Kruk was named "Best Storyteller in the Hudson Valley" by Hudson Valley Magazine. The New York Times described him as "Westchester's intrepid storyteller." The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is Kruk's signature story, which he performs at Legend Weekend Nights at Philipsburg Manor in Sleepy Hollow. At the event, taking place this year on Oct. 18-19 and 25-26, Philipsburg Manor is transformed from an historic 18th-century farm and gristmill to a ghostly, haunted arena, lit by candle lanterns and bonfires, with a colorful, creepy cast of characters out of Hudson Valley folklore roaming the grounds. Legend also includes a display of creepy and creative super-size puppets inspired by Superior Concept Monsters, whose works wow crowds annually at the Greenwich Village Halloween Parade. Visitors, who are encouraged to come in costume, can watch Washington Irving's Headless Horseman take his fabled ride on a black steed. Emmy award-winning lighting designer Deke Hazirjian of New York City Lites creates a moody, atmospheric tableau. Admission to Legend Weekend Nights is by advance timed ticket ONLY. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for ages 5-17, and free for children under five. Buy tickets online at www.hudsonvalley.org or by calling 914-631-8200. Hitachi America, Ltd. is the sponsor of Legend Weekend.
