Best for Children

Sunnyside

Sunnyside
Sunnyside's informally landscaped grounds, colorful gardens, picnic grounds, woodland walks, and charming, intimately scaled house have always appealed to children. From time to time special programs are presented designed especially for children-From a Child's Perspective takes place in August. Routinely available is the Washington Irving's Traveling Tote Bag, with a collection of activities for children and families to do together during a visit to Sunnyside.

Philipsburg Manor

Philipsburg Manor
Philipsburg Manor may be the most popular historic site in the Hudson Valley for children and families. This working 18th-century farm and trading center features demonstrations of early farm techniques with oxen, cows, and sheep. A working water-powered gristmill is fascinating for children of all ages. The Activity Center features hands-on activities related to textiles, foodways, butter and hardtack production, and colonial medicine. The manor house is furnished, in part, with reproductions that may be handled by children and adults.
