Meet the Carvers #12: Faith Butterfield

faithWEB.jpgLast but not least in our Meet the Carvers series, we chat with Faith Butterfield.

BB: What's your day job?
FB: I'm a museum interpreter at Van Cortlandt Manor and also a costume maker.

BB: What kind of carvings are you working on for Blaze 2007?
FB: Snakes, spiders, dinosaurs, the Dead Sea, Celtic knots and flowers.

BB: Are you working on any other Blaze-related items?
FB: Costumes for the "directionals," those one-armed skeletal bandits that point the way on the path.
BB: Love those!
FB: Thanks.

BB: What are your preferred carving tools and methods?
FB: An X-Acto knife and keyhole saws.

BB: Got any carving tips for a novice?
FB: Start in the center and work your way out. And, of course, have some fun.

BB: What's your favorite pumpkin-based food?
FB: Pumpkin pie.

BB: What's your favorite Halloween movie?
FB: Edward Scissorhands.

BB: Toasted pumpkin seeds: Salt or no salt?
FB: Salt and a little cayenne pepper.

BB: What makes pumpkins so special?
FB: They shed light and they make people happy.

BB: If I were a carved pumpkin, I'd be...
FB: A witch riding a broom over a full moon.

BB: Thank you, Faith!

Hope you blog readers enjoyed our ongoing series featuring the "dirty (with pumpkin guts) dozen" carvers who helped bring Blaze to life. Hats off to all of them!

Hi Faith,

Did you go to Greenwich High class of '69? I had a good pal by the name of Faith Butterfield (sisters name Laura and I forget the older sister's name) I'd love to catch up with you if you are the Faith I knew!

Peace, Debbi Caviola (Hodges)

Thanks GG. Vern is the man with the fan (club), and an expert carver, too. It's been fun working with Vern and the other carvers. I give a lot of credit to the entire Blaze Team, especially our STEALTH carver, the speedy Cheryl Bernstein, who carves the most, the fastest, and the best; including the proposal pumpkins. Let's hear it for Cheryl!

Just wanted to take the opportunity to thank everyone involved with the Blaze who worked so hard to make it as impressive and special as it was. We had so much fun going to see it, and I'm sure this was the first of many years that we'll be coming up to see the Blaze!!! smilies/cheesy.gif

Faith has been carving amazing pumpkins for Blaze all three years. She is one of the most productive and talented people I have had the privilege to work with. Thank you Faith.

So now we know the real person behind all the great carvings at Blaze. smilies/wink.gif

I've seen Faith at scooping and carving days. Her dedication and good humor bring delight to all around her. Blaze is truly blessed to have Faith. smilies/smiley.gif
