Quick update on the YouTube contest

The contest is closed and the entries are in (and they are blazing). When will the winner be announced? Next Thursday. Not tonight, sorry folks. I know, I know, you're disappointed. But, patience is a virtue.

More carver profiles and Blaze photos and whatnot coming tomorrow...

Those of you reading Me's constructive criticism may get the wrong idea. Namely, that the carvings of the art pumpkins ("funkins" as they are called) are somehow different than the carvings on the real pumpkins. EVERY Jack O'Lantern at the Blaze, whether a funkin or pumpkin, is individually hand-carved by the team at Van Cortlandt Manor. And it's no easier to carve a funkin than a pumpkin. In fact, the flesh of a real pumpkin is actually more suited to the task.

As for the "commercial" music, visitors should know that every sound you are hearing is part of an original Blaze soundtrack created by the musical folks at Van Cortlandt Manor, including creative director Michael Natiello, local musician Jim Keyes, and Margaret Vetare & Bill Ochs. You won't hear the "Monster Mash" here, folks.

Review - Jack O'Lantern Blaze
written by me, October 18, 2007 @ 09:47 PM
I just returned from the Jack O'Lantern Blaze ... Although there were some rave reviews the majority of the 4000 pumpkins are not real but fake w/ lights insted of candles. The pumpkins are all wonderful as far as carvings, including the fake pumpkins, but it should be advertised that they are mostly not real pumpkins. For small children it would be great as they wouldn't know the difference, but for adults, they should let them know that most are fake. It's a great place to visit once, but would not visit a second time. If more were real pumpkins were carved, I would go annually! Also, it would be GREAT with some HAUNTING music ........... now it's VERY commercial ... but has MUCH potential!!! needs some tweeking ... maybe weekdays for kids(rated PG) and weekend nights after 9PM for adults (really scary? ) it would be GREAT if they modified a little!!!!!!!!!!!
