Getting your hands on tickets (and how to get in when they’re gone)

SkeletonHandsWEB.jpgBlaze ticket demand is rather brisk, which has led to several sold out nights well in advance and lots of posts here and elsewhere from people looking for tickets. But there is still PLENTY of availability, just not on Fridays and Saturdays. Here's a handy recap:

Weekend #2 (#1 is past, and it sold out entirely): Comprising Thursday, Oct. 11-Sunday, Oct. 14. Friday and Saturday are totally gone. Sunday has plenty of availability at 9, the other time slots are gone. Based on prior example, my guess is that final time slot on Sunday will sell out in the next two days. BUT, Thursday has availability in ALL time slots. (FYI, it's the exact same exhibit Thursday as it is Friday and Saturday, AND you can still enter the YouTube contest!)

Weekend #3: Comprising Thursday, Oct. 18-Sunday, Oct. 21. Similar to the above, Friday and Saturday are totally gone. (Oct. 20, in fact, was the first night to go), and Sunday has plenty of availability (for now) at 9, the other time slots are gone. BUT, Thursday, Oct. 18, has availability in all time slots except 7pm, and the other early slots are moving briskly. I expect the Thursday supply to rapidly deplete. So, if you're on the fence, go for it now.

"Weekend" #4: Comprising Wednesday, Oct. 24-Wednesday, Oct. 31. A full week of Blaze to close out the month. Similar to the above, Friday and Saturday are gone. (As I type this, there are 35 tickets for Friday at 9:30 left, but I imagine they will be gone by the time you read this.) Sunday has availability at 8:30 and 9, and the other dates have availability in all time slots.

Thus, if you're still shopping for tickets, your choices are:

Thursday, Oct. 11 (all slots)

Sunday, Oct. 14 (late only)

Thursday, Oct. 18 (most slots but they are filling up)

Sunday, Oct. 21 (late only, moving briskly)

Wednesday Oct. 24 (all slots)

Thursday, Oct. 25 (all slots)

Sunday, Oct. 28 (late only)

Monday, Oct. 29 (all slots)

Tuesday, Oct. 30 (all slots)

Wednesday, Oct. 31 (all slots)

Now dear BlazeBlogger, you ask, is there anyway to get in on a Friday or Saturday, or anytime I want? Actually, yes. You can become a Premier Member of Historic Hudson Valley. Here's a link for info and to join online.

Rain and the Blaze
written by Evan Q, October 19, 2007 @ 11:23 AM
The issue of torrential rains and thunder needs to be addressed somehow. Even a credit towards next year's event would help. As you choose to ignore the concerns and safety of so many patrons, members and your staff, this will be the last Blaze for our large group. Having recently moved to the Hudson Valley, I planned on becoming a member. I certainly won't do that now.

Looking to exchange or sell Blaze tickets.
written by Sarah T, October 16, 2007 @ 09:58 PM
I have 2 tickets I can't use for Blaze on Sunday night, October 28 at 9:00pm. I realize this is an inconvienent time, but maybe a local can use them. I live two hours away and it turns out we will only be in town until Sunday morning. If anyone has tickets they would like to exchange for the only evening we will be there (Sat. Oct 27), I will be forever grateful. I will even pay extra on top of giving you my tix!! (201)805-6888
As I live in Croton..
written by in response.., October 16, 2007 @ 07:14 PM
I just wanted to add on something to what furious customer said. Being I live in Croton, I can say it was definitely STILL lightening and thundering at 7 PM as well as 8 PM. My wife and I decided against bringing our 3 young children out.
Most people understand no refunds or exchanges, rain or shine.
written by Historic Hudson Valley administrator, October 16, 2007 @ 02:58 PM
Dear Furious Customer:

Those of us at Historic Hudson Valley have tried repeatedly to make it clear to everyone that all tickets to the Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze and Legend Weekend are sold on the basis of no refunds or exchanges. The event is rain or shine. Last Thursday, October 11, it happened to be heavy rain until about 6:00 pm, then turned to light rain and finally stopped raining by about 7:00 pm. In response to people who telephoned during the day, our staff repeated the "no refunds or exchanges, rain or shine" message. Some ticket holders, particularly those worried about very small children, opted to stay home and forfeit their tickets, just as they would with tickets for the theater; that was their option. Many people with tickets understood the policy, as a lot showed up and lucked out as the rain eased up and then stopped.

In addition, this year members are required to reserve in advance, and once they have made their reservation, it too is final with no refunds or exchanges. Again, most members understood the policy or asked for clarification beforehand.

We regret anyone was upset by our policy, but the huge popularity of the event has necessitated it.

Lack of Intelligence on part of coordinators
written by Furious customer, October 16, 2007 @ 02:04 PM
We are members who had tickets for Thursday night's event. Due to not just the torrential rain, but more so due to the dangerous lightening, we opted not to bring out children out in it, as any intelligent and sane parent would say. Because we are members, we expected to just attend another night.

Now after attempting to discuss this with the so called people in charge - we are being denied the right to attend. Supposedly members can only attend once? But nowhere in the literature does it say this. It says "unlimited" which in my dictionary does not mean "once". Last year we attended twice. If rules to the membership are changed, then the members should have been notified in writing - which after SCOURING the papers sent to me, that was NOT in there. Still waiting for an answer - Haven't had any returned phone calls nor emails, except for one where I was told very meekly "we'll get back to you".

When would that be? Next year? Oh I know when - when my membership runs out. We will NOT be renewing our membership, and you have some extremely disappointed children. And we will be making sure anyone else we know will not be attending as well.

Was it worth it to hurt children? Was it worth it to lose business? From reading these comments, I can see we were not the only ones upset.
Tickets online, yes, they are. Ice House? Well, not really
written by BlazeBlogger, October 15, 2007 @ 04:31 PM
Pumpkin Slurpee: The Ice House used to house ice. Now it houses the Van Cortlandt Manor gift shop (during non-Blaze days) and during Blaze it functions as a "Will Call" of sorts. It's made of wood and bricks, not ice! (But I like the idea...)

Andy: Still plenty o' tix online, just not on Friidays or Saturdays! Try Oct. 18, 21, 24, 25, 28-31.

Christine and Pumpkin Peeper: Thanks!

An awesome family event!
written by Christine Adler, October 15, 2007 @ 11:23 AM
Although we've listed the Blaze event in Westchester Parent's October calendar for years, this year was my first opportunity to check it out LIVE. My family really enjoyed it, my husband perhaps most of all. The music and fog machine add to the 'spooky' factor, but the mix of fun and scary pumpkins insured there were no nightmares for anyone. Afterward, my 5-year-old said, "now that Halloween is over, when is Christmas?" Forget trick-or-treating; this event WAS Halloween for him!

Great job and thanks to all the volunteers and organizers!

rainout
written by Jim Halperin, October 14, 2007 @ 08:31 AM
I had tickets Thursday night and it was torrential rain. I called the Historical office and they said they had not made a decision on what to do but they would phone me with their decision. Alas...no call...no pumpkin show....no smile on my sons face...Any suggestions?

Ice House????
written by Pumpkin Slurpee, October 13, 2007 @ 02:25 PM
Someone gave me a ticket I have to turn in at the Ice House at Blaze. Is there really an Ice house? Is blaze expanding its scope to winter exhibits? Is there really a house made out of Ice? Can we walk through it? I can't wait to get to blaze this year!!! smilies/cheesy.gif
Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze - postcards
written by Jane Harvey, October 12, 2007 @ 08:13 PM
I was at the Blaze on Sat., 10/6, but did not bring my camera. I had been told that you had plenty of great postcards memorializing this fantastic display of carved pumpkins but, alas, could not find any of the giant spider, the dinosaurs or the skeletons in the trees. Is there any way to view the postcards you have and then purchase them online?
Fabulous time at the Blaze on Thursday!
written by Pumpkin Peeper, October 12, 2007 @ 05:46 PM
We went to the Blaze last night, even though it was raining on and off... We had a wonderful time! The property looked amazing with the sheen of water on all the pumpkins. One of the staff told me that they would have closed down and offered a replacement night if the weather had been really bad; fortunately it was just an occasional nuisance. We can't wait to come back again!
Thursday Night Blaze Rained Out
written by Rained Out, October 12, 2007 @ 08:32 AM
I had tickets for last night's Blaze (10-11-07). Due to the weather, we were unable to attend. It saddens me to know that the tickets previously purchased cannot be used for a different day. My suggestion for next year's Blaze is to incorporate a rain date(s).
