Three more days and four more photos

As you can probably imagine, the Blaze bees are in serious overdrive mode this week, buzzing around the hive that is Van Cortlandt Manor, with the event kicking off THIS Friday. Lots to do, of course, and lots getting done. Below: a smattering of images to further whet your pumpkin appetite.

Clockwise from top left you're seeing the outer bounds of what is in the process of becoming an elaborate labyrinth (or maze, not sure yet. And the difference is what, exactly?). Visitors who remember this area from last year can see from this image that it's going to be nearly three times as big. Next, boxes upon boxes of pumpkins from Wallkill View Farm just waiting to be carved. Then you see a pile of wrought iron stakes from which candle lanterns are hung throughout the property. (Atmospherics...oh yeah.) And finally, a finished pumpkin chandelier, complete with "wax" drippings, for the entrance tent. Those are going to be outta sight!

Thurs. Oct/11 should have been canceled - tickets should be refunded or accepted on another night PLEASE!
written by Norma, October 15, 2007 @ 03:10 PM
I understand rain or shine, but dangerous lightning and thunder, and flooding are another story. The lightning alone should have qualified as "severe weather" which the website says is the only reason they ever cancel a night of the Blaze. I called and was told it was still on, but if weather got really severe, they'd suspend it temporarily and have us wait in our cars - not a viable option for two families attending with four kids under the age of 3. There are still plenty of open slots on other nights - I really hope they decide to give us all another chance (without having to pay twice) to experience this wonderful exhibit (we loved it last year and my 2 yr. old son was really looking forward to the new dinosaur section!).
Rain Out Thursday
written by Jim Halperin, October 13, 2007 @ 08:46 AM
I had tickets Thursday night and it was torrential rain. I called the Historical office and they said they had not made a decision on what to do but they would phone me with their decision. Alas...no call...no pumpkin show....no smile on my sons face...Any suggestions?

The chandeliers in the big tent were totally awesome! Better than I ever imagined from the photos. Any chance of purchasing one?

All those pumpkins!
written by Nessa Rosa, October 02, 2007 @ 04:46 PM
Look at all those pumpkins! smilies/shocked.gif Can you imagine the size of the pie they would make! The chandelier looks great! I can't wait to see what it looks like lit up. The black wax was a great effect. You know, I never stopped to think how much non-pumpkin work it takes to make this event. I guess I just thought some one flicked a magic wand and there it is!
