Let there be (pumpkin) light

ManorHouseMG2.jpgI’ve just learned that the entrance tent for The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze will be significantly expanded this year and with have some cool new features, including – believe it or not – chandeliers made out of pumpkins. Now THAT sounds cool. The chandeliers are being designed by Michael Natiello, creative director for the Blaze.

The enlarged tent will help Blaze organizers with two goals this year. One is to provide full pumpkin ambiance well before visitors enter the illuminated path. And besides serving as a palette for clever pumpkin tricks, the tent will provide better circulation and access for the thousands of visitors who flock to Van Cortlandt Manor each night of the Blaze.

Better circulation is also leading to discussions about the area in front of the Manor House, which leads to the narrow “Long Walk.” As Gabe from Long Island points out in comments on an earlier entry , that area can bottleneck easily as visitors take pictures and gawk at the spectacle of the house lit with pumpkins, then funnel down the Long Walk. Blaze organizers are hoping a more defined path in front of the house will alleviate the issue. Got other suggestions? Let me know and I’ll pass them along.

My mom and I have been coming to Legends Weekend for 3 years now but I never had the chance to see The Blaze since it was always a couple of weeks before. But since the dates have been extended, I finally will! I already know this is going to be another tradition of mine each Halloween :] I can't wait.
even more!!!

I have gone to "The Blaze" twice now and my family and I are looking forward to another great display this year. I work in lighting and the idea that the same art director who created all of the other displays can also design a chandelier! I expect nothing but the best again. It's simply amazing how much talent one person can have to make this all happen. Blaze on!!!
Glad to be of service

Blaze Blogger,

I just wanted to send a little comment, letting you know how excited I am for this year's festivities!!
Last year was my first year going, and I was floored! This year, I will be bringing everyone I know to the blaze. Funny enough, a good friend and myself have been talking about "the blaze" since last october on a regular basis! Talk about obsessed!
Thanks for the blog--its making the painful wait bearable.

Yours in pumpkins,
The Harvest Queen

PS--I am waiting in utter anticipation to see these pumpkin chandeliers!!!

I went last year and loved it, especially the different themes, loved the Aliens and the clowns. I think a horror movie section would be awesome. like michael myers, freddie, jason, dracula, etc pumpkins.. On www.zombiepumpkins.com they have all the patterns for those. Would be nice to see.
