Nothing gets us more excited about the coming 2007 Blaze than watching footage from last year's event. Thanks to YouTube, viewers from across the globe can relive (or live) the experience. Here's one excellent example we uncovered. Long live pumpkins!

Dinosaurs, anyone?
written by BlazeBlogger, August 20, 2007 @ 11:37 AM
Chris: Thanks for your kind words. How they manage to outdo themselves I'm not sure. But, for one thing, Blaze 2007 is going to feature dinosaurs made out of (you guessed it) pumpkins. Yea, amazing. More on that in a future entry.

2006 was my first (and hopefully not last) trip to the Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze. A HUGE thank you to everyone that puts this event on. It was just fantastic. We were blown away by the artistry and quantity of carvings. How do you manage to top it each year??? I would ask you to consider making the T-shirts etc available online. I would definitely purchase items even if I was unable to make the trip.

I think the problem ( humble opinion here..) is caused by the open space in front of the mansion. You've got people that walk counter-clockwise around the yard and mansion, but you also have folks that take a quick look then walk directly to the 'exit'. The exit around the mansion is very constricted, and I noticed several people having trouble navigating the trees and other obstacles.....

Defining a circuit around the yard/ mansion should help a lot.

Good luck this year. We're going to check out the Legend Weekend Evenings this time.
BTW - the Hudsonvalley.org website is extremely well done.
Human traffic jam
written by BlazeBlogger., August 06, 2007 @ 07:54 AM
Gabe: Thanks for your comment. The Blaze organizers are well aware of the issue in front of the manor house, and I'm told they are actively working on solutions for the '07 path. Part of the issue is the fact that the house is so impressive when it's lit with pumpkins, that everybody stops and gawks. So, it sorta comes down to how do you balance giving people the opportunity to take in the spectacle, without causing the huge traffic jam.

Any suggestions out there? I'll pass them along to the powers that be...

Yes, the event/ setting were impressive. The only part that could use some work was directly in front of the mansion. There was no set path to follow, so we wound up in the middle of a human a traffic jam. Once we made it around the corner, we had a blast.

I went to the Blaze last year, too. My wife went kicking and screaming and now she says she wants to bring all our friends in a bus. That probably won't happen but we're definitely planning on bringing some friends this year. You really can't describe it. It must be seen to be believed.

I attended the Blaze in 2006 and had a great time. I went with my girlfriend and her 6 year old niece, and it was fun for all ages. The arrangement of jack o' lanterns was impressive, and the setting was perfect--a beuatiful, crisp, October night...the cider and donuts are also not to be missed.
