The Blaze Web, virtual and not so...

WebWEB.jpg

Got an updated image of the central core of the new spider web taking shape for Blaze 2007. As you can see, it's now studded with half-Jack carved funkins ready for lighting.

According to Creative Director Michael Natiello, this central portion of the web will have long tendrils of half-Jack carved regular pumpkins leading outward and connecting to trees.

Baby spiders will inhabit the web and its surrounds while Mama Spider looks on. Can't wait to see that.

In other Web news, I want to make sure all of you Blog denizens (and there are tons of you, which is great...Welcome!) are finding everything on this site related to HHV's October events.

Take a gander at the "Related Links" column on the right hand side of the page. You'll see links for the Blaze home page, the Legend Weekend home page, a Blaze FAQ (well worth a read, if only for question 42), a ticket buying page and...the page for the Blaze YouTube contest. Oh yeah, you heard right...a YouTube contest. More on that to follow...

The Fly
written by el Grandé Gourd, September 19, 2007 @ 05:59 AM
Thanks crotonbug for the sighting.
Could you tell if it was a common house fly or a horse fly?

I would love to see a few buzzing around in the air around the web.

May the pumpkin force be with you.

Restaurants

Trish: Some suggestions for restaurants:
Sophia, a casual Italian place that's in the Shop Rite center just across from VCM.
Croton Diner, just up the road from VCM on South Riverside Avenue.

Also, if your kids have an adventurous palate, there's Umami, also on South Riverside Avenue.

I'm sure other folks have other suggestions. Let's hear 'em!

Membership Information
written by Melissa McAteer/Membership Department, September 18, 2007 @ 10:42 AM
John: Thanks for your comment. Blaze and Legend are extremely popular events -- we're estimating nearly 70,000 visitors will attend this year! That's why, for the safety, enjoyment, and comfort of everyone who visits, reservations are a must. Members receive free admission to 18(!) annual events, free admission to five of our sites, discounted admission to Kykuit, and much more. Blaze and Legend alone represent a $104 value for a family of four. Members are asked to pay for additional visits to Blaze and Legend because Historic Hudson Valley is a non-profit organization that could not exist without the generousity of its members, donors, and dedicated supporters.
Trick Or Trick!

"Members enjoy free admission to all fall events!"

This is what it states at the top of the e-mails promoting the Great Blaze and Legend Weekend. It is, however quite misleading, because members can only "enjoy free admission" once to each event. So if you wanted to go for a return you'd have to pay, even though you're a member! Not even an option to attend one twice and the other not at all. Very poorly handled all-round. A real shame too. smilies/angry.gif
Any Restaurant Recommendations for Post Blaze with kids?

Can anyone recommend a place to eat after visiting the blaze?
Time

Erin: Thanks for catching the boo-boo on the FAQ. We are fixing it so the correct answer displays to question 9, which is "Approximately 45 minutes." Hope that helps.

Question #9 on the FAQ...
written by Erin, September 17, 2007 @ 08:39 AM
I was excited to see that I could find out how long it would take to walk the entire blaze, (Since this has been a question I'd been pondering for some time now) but the answer is about where the pumkins for the Jack O' Lanterns come from. Is there anyone who knows about how long it takes to wander through the Blaze? Thanks!
Flies!

eGG: LOVE the flies idea...I'm passing it along to Natiello (Blaze Creative Director), who probably already saw your comment anyway.

OMG
written by el Grandé Gourd, September 15, 2007 @ 05:16 PM
You guys are blowing me away! The spider web looks amazing. OMG... A mama spider and her babies. If I see flies made from pumpkins getting snagged in the web, I'll just freak out.

May the pumpkin force be with you.
