Been to Blaze, eh? Well, how about Legend?

LegendHeadlessHorsemanWEB.jpgAlready been to Blaze but STILL need a Halloween fix? Legend Weekend may be just what the witch doctor (heh heh) has ordered. Legend takes place at Philipsburg Manor in the iconic burg of Sleepy Hollow, just south of Croton (via Briarcliff) and right on Route 9.

Legend Weekend is a classic Halloween event that's long been sponsored by Historic Hudson Valley, the same folks who bring you Blaze.

Perhaps the coolest part of Legend is the ride of the Headless Horseman. Yes, it's a real horseman. Yes, he's really headless (well, not REALLY headless, but, come on, you know what I mean). Yes, he rides a real stallion.

And there's plenty more. Philipsburg Manor is transformed from an historic 18th-century farm and gristmill to a ghostly, haunted arena, lit by candle lanterns and bonfires. Besides the Headless one, there's a colorful, creepy cast of characters straight out of Hudson Valley folklore roaming the grounds. Come in costume and blur the line a bit.

New this year, Emmy award-winning lighting designer Deke Hazirjian of New York City Lites is using his skills to boost the atmosphere (His credits include "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" and MTV's New Year's Eve specials.)

Legend kicks off tonight, continues tomorrow, and takes place next Friday-Sunday.

10/25/08 - Legend....Disappointed

We came from Valley Forge, PA. Went to Blaze on Friday night, it was great, very organized and exciting. The Legend at Phillipsburg was very disappointing. I'm sure the weather was a partial factor, but, other than the storyteller, everything else was a disappointment. Trees in a barn? Pirate folksingers? Ghosts just hanging in a mill? It was very bland and not worth the money. The Old Dutch and Sleepy Hollow cemetary is really cool - that and Blaze were worth the trip.
I think Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow need to kick it up a notch. We would have like to do the hayride through the cemetary, but didn't know about it until too late. No advertising/no signs. The towns could do a LOT more to bring in tourists, they definitely have the location and history to make it fabulous.
Dissapointed in Legend

We have not been to the legend weekend for a couple of years. So despite the weather being horrible at Legeng Evening on 10/25/08 we decided to go after we purchased our tickets in advance. Maybe the poor weather played it's part but the event was disapointing. Having 2 large puppets in the barn was not what i call amusement for the children. The headless Horseman is always a treat to see. We went to the Blaze in 07 and decided to skip it this year and attend Legend to see something new. After one walk around we decided to leave.(not because of the weather) Where did the withces go?. Maybe it is time think re-think the event and give it a good overhaul to attract more people.

We went to both Blaze and Legend this year. This was our 2nd time to Blaze and 3rd time to Legend. Blaze was better than last year and last year was fantastic. Legend didn't seem to be too exciting. The witches on 10/27 were amazing, but other than that, we were a little disappointed. No gypsies this year and the ghost dancers were not dancing the 2 times we looked into the barn. Maybe the Historic Hudson Valley was short-handed due to the 2 events happening at the same time. see you next year.

Want Legend Tickets from 10/19 (Cancelled) or 10/20

If anyone has 4 or 5 legend tickets from the cancelled 10/19 Friday night show or from 10/20 Saturday show that they will not be able to use, I would be interested in purchasing them. I would need them to be between the 6pm and 8 pm time slot to sort of coincide with my other tickets. Email me at abruchha@optonline.net.
Cancellation of Blaze on 10/19

What did you base your cancellation on, a weather repport? We know how reliable those are. We left Tarrytown at 630 PM, our Blaze start time, after travelling 100 miles each way and there was a breeze blowing with no more than a light mist in the air. Your sales ad specifically says "rain or shine". Supoose the weather forecast was inclement weather and WE decided not to make the trip ....we would have been out $16. And what about the gas expended driving that far for nothing? We'd rebook but what if the weather turns nasty that day and you decide to cancel again? No thanks. It's such a shame because we enjoyed this so much last year and were really looking forward to treating our friends to this experience, not to mention all the recommendations we gave. At this point, not sure if we'd take this chance in the future. Too bad.

OMG...How could I forget the witches? Yes, the Witches Coven is a perennially popular part of Legend. Lots of cackling, lots of wackiness. Yet another reason to visit.

What? No mention of the Witches? They have always been so entertaining and really know how to cook! I thought they were the stars, not that horse rider who lost his head. I wouldn't ignore them or they may turn you into a small, vile creature! Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha! smilies/wink.gif
