These little ones aren't sheepish

Historic Hudson Valley's kick-off spring event, Sheep-to-Shawl Festival at Philipsburg Manor, allows visitors to get up close and personal with sheep and newborn lambs, not to mention oxen, a dairy cow, and some chickens (plus a barn cat or two).

The event is this upcoming Saturday and Sunday, April 17-18, rain or shine, though fingers are crossed for the latter. Right now it looks like we'll be OK, particularly on Sunday.

The day includes sheep shearing, sheep herding, wool dyeing and weaving and other hands-on fun. Everything is demonstrated using techniques from the 18th century. It's a little like traveling back in time!

Fun Philipsburg Fact: All the sheep here are historic breeds: either Horned Dorset and Horned Wilshire. Spring is also lambing season! Take a look at the 2010 lambs in this short video then come meet them this weekend.
