Stories after dark at Sunnyside

Sleepy Hollow's reputation as a Halloween destination is unrivaled.  As befits Washington Irving, the master storyteller whose ghostly Legend of Sleepy Hollow inspires all this spooky fun, the region is all but overrun with hair-raising tales and bewitching characters this time of year. Where else can you come face-to-face with the Headless Horseman, hear the "Legend" of his haunting while sitting in the cemetery where he was (supposedly) buried, or see his likeness built entirely from carved pumpkins — all after dark?  But until now, there was one place in Sleepy Hollow where you could not enjoy some mystery and enchantment at night, and it was Sunnyside — the home of Irving himself.

All that has changed this year with Story Jam@Sunnyside, Historic Hudson Valley's special after-hours event in partnership with Pros(e) of Pie, Westchester's preeminent "The Moth"-style storytelling series.  On Saturday, Oct. 15 at 7:30 pm, join us for an evening featuring the best local storytellers against the atmospheric backdrop of Irving's riverside property and the vistas that inspired his most famous works.

Included on the stellar roster of storytellers are Moth superstars Bonnie Levinson, Sandi Marx, Jim O'Grady, Isaac Oliver and Jeff Solomon, as well as singer/songwriter (and Old Dutch Church Irving’s ‘Legend’ organist) Jim Keyes. Guests may purchase wine, beer, and savory snacks prepared by Irvington's celebrated Wolfert's Roost restaurant (which takes its name from Irving's last book of Hudson Valley stories).

"I believe there is no better way to connect with people than to share a true, personal story.  Allowing yourself to be vulnerable and tell your truth through storytelling is terrifying, exhilarating, and life changing," storyteller Bonnie Levinson once said. What could be better than life-changing experiences accompanied by a cold pumpkin beer? Don't miss this rare chance to enjoy the charms of Sunnyside — and live stories —after dark … but keep an eye out for the Headless Horseman!
