Tarry down in Tarrytown

Historic Hudson Valley was recently given a gift by local antiquary and collector, Frank Racette. His collecting passion has been sheet music related to New York and the Hudson River Valley. His gift included over 200 objects, dating from 1834 to 1992, and range from widely popular hits to small self-published lesser-known works.

HHV has a particular interest in these music sheets for their connection to Washington Irving's popular stories, as well as regional interest. Sheet music was a way for popular music to be disseminated quickly, the way 45 records were in the mid-20th century or mp3s are today.

We asked musician Jim Keyes to take us back in time and bring this piece to life.
