Reporting to the Senior Vice President, the Controller is an accounting professional who will quickly and effectively play a hands-on role in the daily operations of the accounting function, manage accounting staff (Accounts Payable Coordinator) and manage all aspects of the organization’s accounting records. 

Direct responsibilities include general accounting recordkeeping, daily activities of payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable, preparing and reconciling  month end closings, financial planning/reporting, preparing and managing the general operating and capital budgets, coordination of audit activities, preparation of financial statements and federal form 990. 

Other duties include maintaining and improving internal accounting controls; reviewing and establishing accounting policies and procedures; tracking and reporting on grant funding projects and; serving as the subject matter expert on accounting and tax standards, regulations and legislation. The Controller will take ownership of the cash flow and revenue cycles including billing and expense management. She/he will also build and interpret sales and revenue forecast models, using same to inform optimal business decisions and financial planning; maintain the investment portfolio; prepare monthly management reports and; maintain endowment records. 

Qualifications & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. Master’s degree highly preferred.
• Minimum 10 years of accounting and financial management experience.
• Previous experience as a Controller in a non-profit with earned income and investments.
• Minimum 5 years managing and supervising accounting staff.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Accounting software power user (Blackbaud preferred).
• Strong computer skills and advanced proficiency in Raiser’s Edge, Microsoft Office Suite and ADP.
• Strong administrative, problem solving, time management, and analytical skills.
• Strong knowledge of and experience budgeting and forecasting.
• Working knowledge of point of sales software (Siriusware preferred).
• Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills. Experienced at delivering presentations to senior level managers and board members.
• Flexible, able to work well with all levels of staff, senior management, and Board members.
• Strong knowledge of relevant accounting-related legislation and regulations.
• Familiarity with human resources-related legislation and regulations.
• Strong work ethic with proven ability to meet internal and external deadlines.
• Strategic thinker, ability to provide a positive working and learning environment for staff.
• Effectively develop and implement strategies in support of organizational goals.

Compensation includes salary of $90,000 - $100,000 depending on experience and a benefits package including employer paid 401(k), paid time off and employer supported health insurance. The position requires some evening, weekend and holiday work in support of our public events.
